M4 weekend closure between junctions 6 and 8/9 is going ahead tonight, plus next weeks closures

Work to improve journeys by converting the M4 into a smart motorway between Junctions 3 at Hayes to Junction 12 at Theale continues this week. 24 hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction are in place for sections of this stretch of the M4. Carriageway and slip road closures are planned as follows, all fully closed overnight (traffic management will usually be rolled out from 10pm and taken off by 6am).

  • TONIGHT'S WEEKEND CLOSURE, JUNCTIONS 6 TO 8/9: The M4 between junctions 6 and 8/9 will be closed in both directions from approximately 8pm this evening until 6am on Monday 8 June 2020 for further work on the M4 bridge over the River Thames at Bray and Marsh Lane bridge. Traffic will be diverted to the A308M, A308, A332 and the A355 (see map below). Strategic diversions will also be in place in the wider region using the M25, M3 and M40.
  • The next weekend closure scheduled after this is between junctions 4b and 5 over the weekend of 26-29 June 2020.
  • Our May news bulletin is out, read it here..... the June bulletin will be out next week.

There are a few overnight closures next week:

  • The M4 westbound carriageway between junctions 10 (Wokingham) and 11 (Reading) will be closed overnight on Monday 8 & Tuesday 9 June 2020. Clearly signed diversions will be in place utilising the A329M, A3290 & B3270.
  • The M4 eastbound carriageway between junctions 11 (Reading) and 10 (Wokingham) will be closed overnight on Wednesday 10 & Thursday 11 June 2020. Clearly signed diversions will be in place utilising the B3270, A3290 & A329M.
  • Slip road closures for next week are as follows:

  • Junction 4 - the eastbound entry slip will be closed overnight on 10 & 11 June.
  • Junction 6 - the eastbound entry slip will be closed overnight on 9 & 10 June.
  • Junction 10 - the westbound entry slip from the A329M northbound (slip road 2) will be closed overnight on 10, 11 & 12 June.
  • Junction 10 - the eastbound entry slip from the A329M northbound (slip road 5) will be closed overnight on 10 & 11 June.
  • Junction 10 - the westbound entry slip from the A329M southbound (slip road 6) will be closed overnight on 10, 11 & 12 June.
  • Junction 12 - the westbound entry slip will be closed overnight on 11 & 12 June 2020.
  • In the event of poor weather conditions or other issues out of our control, planned work may be postponed at short notice. Contingency bookings are also in place, but these are only used if previously planned work is delayed and there is no clash with other closures. If work completes on an earlier day the motorway may not close, or if work completes ahead of schedule the motorway may reopen early. Signage will be in place on the network to notify of closures and diversions. The project is continuing but all our work is under careful review in response to the Covid-19 outbreak and safety measures are in place on site to protect workers, their families and the public.
